Every mistake that could be made was made with Plastic, and yet Unity moved to this and got rid of Collab. you can't even test your game unless you completely disable Plastic). Either it corrupts files, corrupts projects, won't update the Plastic window leading you to restart Unity, will only sync on 2 of the 3 team member's machines (I checked the settings myself and everything looks fine, but it just doesn't work), will charge you money out of nowhere for a student project (keep in mind Collab was free and these are STUDENT projects, so there is no money being made on these games), oh and if you don't pay up, they block your project from using Plastic and will annoy you with constant pop ups even if you try to run your game locally on your own machine (i.e. A couple months into the course and almost every student team has had issues with Plastic (including myself). I thought it wasn't going to be too bad at first. I teach a game design course and was forced into using Plastic (as everyone else was). I thought it was just me for a while! Thanks for your rant!Ĭompletely agree. I think it was $4 a month for the plan i went with on GitHub (to allow private repos etc). I used a recent working manual backup, relocated the Git files as shown and now have a nice UI to interface in the desktop app, and tons of folks online more familiar with my tool. I found this walk through to be very helpful in getting setup as a beginner setting up GitHub the 1st time. I recommend using the desktop app, makes things easier to follow imho. I eventually just got fed up and realized far more tutorials, walkthroughs and support for GitHub and switched. Progress on my game stalled for over a week. I was completely befuddled and frustrated by Plastic SCM, and even the stripped down Gluon. I'm a classic night/weekend hobbyist with sometimes literally only 15 minutes of "knitting with computers" as I like to call it to help me unwind after a stressful 10 hour day at work.
